Coffee Filter Flowers on KKTV Channel 11 news

Reese and I did these coffee filter flowers on KKTV 11 news this morning!  Here are the step by step instructions on how to make them…

Supplies needed:

food coloring, vinyl paint or koolaid for dying flowers

drinking straws, pipe cleaners, floral wire or pencils to use as a stem

coffee filters (brown or white or both)

floral tape or masking tape

First, if you would like to dye your flowers different colors, you can mix vinyl paint, food coloring or koolaid with 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup water.

Dip your coffee filter into the tinted water.

No need to soak the filter, just wring it out and lay flat to dry.  If you would like your filters to dry faster, you can put them in a 200 degree oven for a few minutes.

Once your filters are dry, you can begin assembling.  First put a little floral tape (masking tape works too) around your stem, about an inch from the top.  I used drinking straws, but you could use pencils, floral wire or pipe cleaners too.

Next poke the stem through the center of one coffee filter.

Make sure the filter stops at your tape marker, about an inch from the top of the straw.  Then, you simply twist the filter around the straw.

Continue twisting around until you have a little bud.

Secure the bud into place with a little piece of floral tape.

Repeat with as many coffee filters as you like.  The more filters you use, the bigger and fluffier the flower!

This was a fun craft!  I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

If you love these flowers, but don’t want or don’t have the time to make them, they are now available for purchase in my shop!
